A Methodology for Hardware/Software Codesign of Real-Time Systems with SDL/MSC

Thus, SDL supports the rapid development and extension of complex systems to meet stringent time-to-market and cost constraints. In conjunction with SDL, Message Sequence Charts (MSC) are employed to describe specific use cases of the system. However, SDL and MSC abstract from nonfunctional aspects and implementational details as time, performance and other limitations of physical systems. Thus, standard SDL and MSC are not suited for the codesign of HW/SW systems.
